What to
Look For.
When reviewing surgical results, it helps to know what distinguishes a well-performed deep plane facelift.
Jawline definition
Look at the transition from the chin to the ear. In the “before” photographs you may see heaviness, jowling, and a blurred jawline. In the “after” photographs, notice how the jaw-to-ear line has been restored to a clean, defined contour without appearing tight or pulled.
Nasolabial folds
The deep lines running from the nose to the corners of the mouth are among the most visible signs of midface descent. After surgery these folds should appear softened — not erased entirely (which would look unnatural), but visibly improved.
Midface volume
As the SMAS descends, the cheeks lose their natural projection. After a deep plane facelift, the midface should appear fuller and more youthful without looking overfilled.
Neck contour
If a neck lift was performed alongside the facelift, look at the angle between the chin and the neck. A restored cervicomental angle — the clean line from jaw to throat — is one of the most dramatic improvements.
Overall naturalness
The hallmark of a well-performed deep plane facelift is that the result looks natural. The patient should look like a rested, refreshed version of themselves. If you cannot quite pinpoint what changed, the surgeon has done their job.

A deep plane facelift restores structure, definition, and a more youthful contour. It will not change your bone structure, eliminate every line, or make you look like a different person. Patients typically describe the outcome as looking like themselves again — rested, refreshed, and confident.
