Overly large breasts may cause some women to have both health and emotional problems. In addition to self-image issues, you may experience physical pain and discomfort. The weight of excess breast tissue may impair your ability to lead an active life.
The emotional discomfort and self-consciousness often associated with having large, pendulous breasts is as important an issue to many women as the physical discomfort and pain.
Also known as reduction mammoplasty, this procedure removes excess breast fat, glandular tissue, and skin. The goal is a breast size in proportion with your body — and relief from the discomfort.

When clinical criteria are met, breast reduction surgery may be covered under OHIP. The path to coverage varies by case and requires documentation of your symptoms and the weight of tissue planned for removal.
During your consultation, Dr. Huq will assess your candidacy and — where appropriate — guide you through the OHIP process. Any out-of-pocket portion will be quoted separately and transparently.
Is breast reduction covered by OHIP?
Breast reduction surgery may be covered under OHIP when clinical criteria are met. This is determined case-by-case and requires documentation of symptoms and the weight of tissue planned for removal.
Am I a candidate?
Good candidates are physically healthy non-smokers with realistic expectations — typically bothered by the feeling that their breasts are too large, limited in physical activity, experiencing back/neck/shoulder pain, bra-strap indentations, or skin irritation beneath the breast crease.
Can liposuction be added to my breast reduction?
Yes. For many patients, Dr. Huq pairs the reduction with liposuction to refine the contour along the sides of the chest and under the arm, where excess fullness often lingers. The result is a smoother, more balanced shape than tissue removal alone can achieve.
Because the liposuction portion is a contouring refinement, it is not covered by OHIP and carries an additional cost beyond the reduction itself. Dr. Huq will let you know during your consultation whether liposuction would benefit your result, and the exact amount will be included in your all-inclusive quote.
What about any cost not covered by OHIP?
Any out-of-pocket portion depends on the specifics of your case and any combined procedures — for example, adding liposuction for contouring (above). Dr. Huq’s office will provide a transparent, all-inclusive quote at the end of your consultation.
