A DISCUSSION ABOUT COSMETIC SURGERY WITH NIAGARA PLASTIC SURGEON DR. N.S. HUQ

"Where, you ask does beauty dwell? I’ll share what I’ve discovered, That though the face may draw a crowd, It’s the neck that lures a lover.”

Are their other methods of getting similar improvements?
Dr. Huq responds, “Yes, but every neck is different. In some cases, liposuction alone can provide a significant improvement. Lately, barbed threads have been promoted as a „non-surgical facelift‟ and are often used, especially by non-plastic surgeons, as a solution for the aging conditions we spoke of earlier. However, experienced plastic surgeons know that these threads do not achieve the same dramatic
“The barbed threads that were mentioned earlier are very disappointing, and years later there is still no significant follow-up scientific data published to support a real and lasting cosmetic improvement. Different types of threads are being developed as there are still many problems to be solved with this method. So to date, surgery still generally produces the most impressive and permanent results” adds Dr. Huq.
Dr. Huq discusses the neck lift procedure…
“For many people, the natural process of ag- ing often leaves them looking far older than they feel, particularly in the face and neck area. In some cases it is hereditary, while in others, weight loss or simply time and gravity have left their mark. Very often it is the skin in and around the neck area that contributes most dramatically to one‟s aging appearance as opposed to the face. In both women and men where this is the case, a neck lift can yield dramatic results, often dissolving years from one‟s appearance.” “Unlike the face above it, the neck has a very different landscape. It is a curved undulating plane, very much like a cylinder with no midline obstacles dividing the left and right sides.” “In a surgical neck lift, excising skin is the least important part of the procedure. The central muscles and fat are, in fact, the most important aspect. By focusing on the remodeling of the neck tissues, a more refined improvement in the neck can be realized, helping capture a more even and graceful, swan-like neck. Most sur- gery on the neck can be performed through a single, well-hidden incision without any visible scars around the ears.”

Can men benefit from this procedure as well?
Dr. Huq replies “ Absolutely. Men often opt for this proce- dure and generally achieve excellent results with an iso- lated neck lift. Many men are not concerned with the rest of their face as their facial aging is often viewed favourably as “character”. Dr. Huq adds “However, most dislike the way baggy or sagging neck skin piles up on their shirt col- lar or tie. Many men complain of the loose skin or that “turkey gobbler” look or even heavy jowls, like a puppy dog. These areas can often be very effectively addressed in men without the need for a full facelift.

and lasting outcomes as a surgical neck lift and, more often than not, just do not work well for most individuals.” Dr. Huq adds “The difference between an ordinary result and extraordinary result is just a little extra”.
Who is a good a candidate for this procedure?
“Typically, people seeking this type of procedure are be- tween 45 and 75 years of age, although younger individuals facing similar concerns regarding their appearance also seek and benefit from the neck lift procedure. The proce- dure on its own or, in some instances in combination with a face lift procedure such as the OptimumLIFTTM mini-facelift, has proven to be a safe and highly effective lasting solution for both men and women who have heavy jowls, a loose neck, or aging, sagging face and neck skin” says Dr. Huq He adds, “It is also best to have any medical conditions well controlled before undergoing the procedure. Quit smoking, stabilize your weight, and keep your blood pres- and lasting outcomes as a surgical neck lift and, more often than not, just do not work well for most individuals.” sure and blood sugar under control,”
What else is new in cosmetic surgery?
Dr Huq responds “During the 1990‟s, a trend began in minimally invasive procedures in plastic surgery. BOTOX® became very popu- lar, but it tends to lasts only about three to six months and can be quite expensive in the long run. Most wrinkle fillers are also temporary and somewhat costly. Lasers and IPL (intense pulsed light) treatments are an option; however they often require multiple visits which in- creases the total cost to gain what is often only modest results.”
